Former Central Bank Governor and Emir of Kano, Muhammadu Sanusi II, has raised the alarm over Nigeria’s deteriorating security situation, declaring that the country is already in crisis with citizens coexisting with bandits and Boko Haram insurgents.

Sanusi made the  remarks on Saturday at the 60th birthday celebration of former Rivers State Governor, Rotimi Amaechi.

“For all those who are saying we have to be careful before we get into a crisis, please wake up,” the Emir said.

“We are living with bandits and Boko Haram; we are already there. We are already in crisis, it has already happened. The question is, how do we get out of it?”

The outspoken monarch, known for his forthright views on national issues, also blamed Nigeria’s ruling elite for the country’s worsening poverty and insecurity, lamenting what he described as a disconnect between leaders and the reality faced by ordinary Nigerians.

Sanusi criticised the elite’s ignorance of the dire conditions in the country, pointing out that the multidimensional poverty afflicting millions of Nigerians is a consequence of leadership failure and poor governance.

The Emir’s comments come amid mounting insecurity across various regions of Nigeria, with frequent reports of kidnappings, killings, and terrorist attacks.

His remarks are the latest in a series of calls by concerned leaders urging government authorities to take urgent and decisive action to rescue the nation from the brink.

The event, which drew prominent political and traditional figures, turned into a sober reflection on the nation’s challenges, with Sanusi’s remarks drawing significant attention.
