Nigeria is gradually winning the battle against insecurity, Defence Minister, Gen. Christopher Musa, has said, assuring citizens that peace is within reach.
Gen. Musa made the remarks over the weekend at the 7th OurNigeria News Awards in Abuja, where he was honoured for his contributions to national security and leadership.
Describing the recognition as inspiring, the minister said it reinforced the importance of collective efforts in securing the nation.
“We are improving by the day. We all need to put our hands together. Peace is achievable, but it requires a whole-of-society approach,” Musa said.
The minister commended Nigerians for their resilience and continued support for security agencies, urging vigilance and cooperation. He noted that public involvement is critical to tackling crimes such as banditry, kidnapping, terrorism, and insurgency.
Highlighting the administration’s efforts, Musa said President Bola Ahmed Tinubu is taking proactive steps to strengthen the country’s security architecture.
He cited recent high-level engagements in Türkiye, aimed at enhancing Nigeria’s capacity to combat insecurity.
Describing the security landscape as a form of asymmetric warfare, Musa warned that threats are often hidden, making vigilance essential.
“The enemy is within. Someone you consider a friend could turn against you. Communities that provide safe havens for criminals worsen the problem,” he said.
Despite ongoing challenges, Musa expressed optimism about Nigeria’s future. “Nigeria is resilient and divinely blessed. United, we will be the strongest force ever,” he said.
The minister’s remarks come amid ongoing efforts by the federal government to tackle insecurity nationwide, signaling a renewed commitment to restoring peace and stability.
