    Nigerian Army Anticipates Improved Security With Helicopter Deliveries In 2024, Says COAS

    The Chief of Army Staff, Lt Gen. Taoreed Lagbaja, announced on Monday that the Nigerian Army is set to receive helicopters and other combat enablers in 2024, a move aimed at enhancing national security.

     The revelation came during a special luncheon organized for frontline troops in Port Harcourt, Rivers State.

    Addressing the gathering, Lt Gen. Lagbaja commended the courage and resilience of the men and officers of the Nigerian Army, acknowledging their dedication and unwavering faith in the country. Represented by Maj. Gen. 

    Kevin Aligbe, the Commander, Training and Doctrine Command, Nigerian Army, Lt Gen. Lagbaja highlighted ongoing welfare projects initiated by the Army headquarters, emphasizing their direct impact on the lives of Nigerian soldiers.

    He stated, “The incoming year, the Nigerian Army expects to take delivery of its helicopters and other combat enablers that will see better security developed across the entire country.” 

    While expressing gratitude for the sacrifices made by troops during the festive season, he recognized that many would be on duty in challenging locations.

    Lt Gen. Lagbaja emphasized the Federal Government’s commitment to addressing security challenges and outlined the Army’s focus on training to ensure a return to an era where Nigerians can travel freely across the country with a sense of safety.

    Major General Jamal Abdussalam, the General Officer Commanding, 6 Division Nigeria Army, Port Harcourt, commended the operational activities of the Army, noting their positive impact on oil production quotas. 

    He reassured adherence to global best practices and warned criminal elements responsible for the recent attack on soldiers in Ahoada, Rivers State, that they would face consequences for their actions.

    Representing Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara, Prof Ngozi Ordu, the Deputy Governor, lauded the sacrifices of the Nigerian Army and pledged continued support from the state government to enhance security in the region.
