The Nigerian Air Force (NAF) announced on Monday that airstrikes conducted by the Air Component of Operation Hadarin Daji have killed more than 80 terrorists in Katsina State.
PLATFORM TIMES reports that the strikes targeted a hideout in Gidan Kare Village of Ruwan Godiya Ward, Faskari Local Government Area (LGA).
It was further gathered that the operation was initiated after intelligence reports indicated that over 100 terrorists were burning houses at a settlement approximately 5 kilometers from Gidan Kare Village.
A statement by AVM Edward Gabkwet, Director of Public Relations and Information of the Nigerian Air Force sated that upon arriving overhead the village at about 8:30 PM, the NAF observed multiple houses on fire, creating widespread panic among the residents.
Gabkwet highlighted the destruction of 45 motorcycles belonging to the terrorists during the airstrikes.
Gabkwet noted that the terrorists were gathering at the location, likely planning further attacks on nearby villages.
He added that the airstrikes commenced at 9:40 PM, resulting in the confirmed elimination of over 80 terrorists, with the surviving militants seen fleeing or limping away.
Gabkwet also revealed that the terrorists were linked to notorious kingpins Yusuf Yellow and his associate Rabe Imani.
He emphasised that such strikes have significantly disrupted terrorist activities in the region.
The Chief of the Air Staff, Air Marshal Hasan Abubakar, commended the Air Component and other security agencies for their efforts in diminishing the capabilities of terrorist elements in the Northwest.
Meanwhile, troops of the Multinational Joint Task Force (MNJTF), deployed to Operation Lake Sanity 2 under Task Force Wulgo, successfully rescued 34 women and children from Boko Haram terrorists.
The operation, conducted in the Mazuri, Itsari, Mudu, and Maleri villages on the fringes of Southern Lake Chad, also resulted in the death of one terrorist.
Lt. Col. Abubakar Abdullahi, Chief Military Public Information Officer of MNJTF Ndjamena – Chad, reported that three fighters from the Islamic State’s West Africa Province (ISWAP) surrendered to the vigilant troops.
The fighters, identified as Babakura Abubakar (20), Abacha Kyari (28), and Mohammad Adam (29), are currently undergoing interrogation.
Additionally, an air interdiction mission on June 9, 2024, at Kollaram destroyed three suicide vehicle-borne IEDs poised for a major terrorist attack. These precise strikes underscore the efficacy of the Troops Contributing Countries’ air force units in neutralizing high-value terrorist targets and mitigating potential threats.
The Force Commander, Maj. Gen. Ibrahim Sallau Ali, praised the bravery of the troops involved in these operations and reaffirmed MNJTF’s commitment to restoring normalcy and peace through continued vigilance and proactive engagements.
He emphasised that the combined efforts of ground and air operations are significantly degrading the operational strength and morale of terrorist factions in the region.
