A Petty Officer (PO) in the Nigerian Navy, M. Nasiru has been sacked for allegations of theft.
The dismissal stemmed from accusations that Nasiru pilfered various items from the residence of a retired Naval rating who had housed him and his family in Lokoja, Kogi State.
According to the military signal, Nasiru allegedly stole ; 30 pieces of wrappers, 3 veils, a Maxi generator, and 40 empty gallons, collectively valued at approximately 600,000 Naira.
These items were reportedly taken from the home of Mrs. Jumai Idris, the retired rating who had provided accommodation to Nasiru and his family free of charge.
“ He Stole from the house of one Mrs Jumai Idris who accommodated him and his family in her 3 bedroom flat in Lokoja town, for free.
“The woman is a retired rating presently working in Abuja at the time of her return, she discovered the missing items, she tried contacting the PO who has already packed out but to no avail hence she reported the incident to the naval authority to enable her recover her items.”
Mrs. Idris, upon her return to her residence in Lokoja, discovered the missing items and attempted to contact Nasiru, who had already vacated the premises.
Failing to reach him, she escalated the matter to naval authorities in hopes of recovering her belongings.
PLATFORM TIMES reports that the dismissal of Nasiru is said to be in accordance with the provisions outlined in the 1999 Constitution as amended, the Armed Forces Act (Rules of Procedure) 1972, and other applicable laws governing the Nigerian military.
This incident comes on the heels of another dismissal within the armed forces, involving Lance Corporal Jonah Comfort, who was alleged to have stolen gold jewelry valued at N35 million from the wife of an army general.
