Good morning! Here is today’s summary from Nigerian Newspapers:

Their rescue was made possible by the joint efforts of the military, the police and the Department of State Services (DSS).

    2. Nigeria has recorded 40 confirmed cases of Monkeypox (Mpox) from 830 suspected cases in the country but no death has been recorded so far, the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control and Prevention (NCDC has said. Meanwhile, the Africa Centres for Disease Control and Prevention (Africa CDC) has declared Mpox a Public Health Emergency of Continental Security (PHECS) after a 160% increase in cases this year.

    3. Following the statutory retirement of some members of the management team of Nigeria Customs Service (NCS), the Comptroller General of Customs (CGC), Bashir Adewale Adeniyi has approved key management appointments in acting capacity and redeployment to enhance strategic service delivery. The service made this known in a statement on Friday.

    4. Prominent political figures, on Friday, graced the wedding ceremony of Laila, daughter of former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, to her partner, Saleh Maitala. The event was held at the National Mosque in Abuja.

    5. President Bola Tinubu says his administration has been sensitive to the citizens’ needs and yearnings amid economic challenges confronting the country, stressing that different steps are being taken to address the challenges. Speaking in Abuja, Tinubu stated that his administration had made significant strides in addressing some challenges encountered by the citizens.

    6. President Bola Ahmed Tinubu on Friday swore in Justice Kudirat Kekere-Ekun as the acting Chief Justice of Nigeria (CJN) with a charge to always strive to defend the independence of the judiciary.

    7. The National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) has rolled out plans of issuing certificates to prospective corps members who could not be mobilised for the one year national service after falling kidnap victims. The victims were travelling to Sokoto State for the three weeks orientation course when they were kidnapped in Zamfara State, on August 17, 2023.

    8. The Nigerian Education Loan Fund has clarified that geopolitical zones do not influence the disbursement of its funds. This came after NELFUND shared that it had released the sum of N2.94bn to 19 universities for 27,667 students. The list revealed that universities in the South-East and South-South regions were not included among the beneficiaries, sparking criticism from some Nigerians.

    9. Barely 24 hours after a truck rammed into a vehicle and a pedestrian in the Lafenwa area of Ogun State, two persons were killed when a truck crushed a tricycle in the Papalanto area of the state. The accident, according to the spokesman for the Traffic Compliance and Enforcement Agency, Babatunde Akinbiyi, occurred in the early hours of Friday.
