A Nigerian pilgrim from Jigawa State attending the recently concluded 2024 Hajj returned a lost purse containing  $800, approximately N1,185,000, along with 690 Saudi Riyal and some Russian currency to the National Hajj Commission of Nigeria (NAHCON).

The incident occurred on Wednesday night at the Masjid Nabawi (Prophet’s Mosque) in Madina.

PLATFORM TIMES gathered that the pilgrim, Abba Saadu Limawa, hails from Limawa village in the Dutse Local Government Area of Jigawa State.

It was further  gathered that, Limawa discovered the purse, which contained a  substantial amount of money, he chose to report and return the lost purse, an act that has been widely praised.

NAHCON, which oversees the welfare of Nigerian pilgrims during the Hajj, confirmed the commendable act.

The Chairman/CEO of NAHCON, Malam Jalal Ahmad Arabi, officially received the purse from Limawa during the 2024 post-Arafat meeting organized by the Commission in Makkah.

Ahmad Umar Labo, the Director-General of the Jigawa State Muslim Pilgrims Welfare Board, provided additional details about the incident.

According to Labo, Limawa had found the purse and displayed it at the mosque for about two days before the Hajj, hoping the rightful owner would claim it.

When no one came forward, Limawa contacted Labo, who then notified NAHCON, leading to the formal presentation during the post-Arafat meeting.

Labo commended Limawa for his integrity, noting that such actions highlight the true spirit of Hajj and the values of honesty and trustworthiness that the pilgrimage seeks to promote.

NAHCON’s Chairman also praised Limawa, emphasizing that his act of honesty not only reflects well on him personally but also on Nigeria and its pilgrims as a whole.

This incident underscores the importance of moral conduct during Hajj, a time when millions of Muslims from around the world gather to perform one of the five pillars of Islam.
