Nigerian security operatives in Zamfara State have apprehended a woman, identified as Shamsiyya, for attempting to transport ammunition to a terrorist hideout.
The suspect was intercepted by troops at a checkpoint on her way from Hanka to an undisclosed location believed to be a hub for criminal activities.
In a video obtained, the suspect confessed to her involvement in the illicit activity. “My name is Shamsiyya. I am a married woman, and my husband’s name is Umar. I have never seen this kind of ammunition before now,” she stated, adding that the ammunition was handed to her by an unknown individual.
She admitted awareness of the lethal nature of the ammunition but claimed ignorance of its presence within the package she was tasked to deliver.
“I know the ammunition can kill someone, but I didn’t know what was inside the package they gave me to deliver. I was only told to deliver it to someone,” she explained.
Shamsiyya further disclosed that she received transport fare for the delivery but insisted she was unaware of the package’s deadly contents.
Zamfara State has remained a hotspot for banditry and terrorism, with authorities intensifying surveillance and intelligence-driven operations to restore peace and stability.
While investigations are ongoing, the arrest highlights the increasing involvement of unsuspecting individuals in the transportation of arms and ammunition, often under duress or deceit.
Security agencies have reiterated their commitment to dismantling terrorist networks and bringing perpetrators to justice.
