The Minister of Power, Mr Adebayo Adelabu, has assured Nigerians that 2026 will witness consistent, accessible, and sustainable electricity supply nationwide.
The assurance was given in a New Year message delivered to Nigerians and residents of Oyo State, through his Special Adviser on Strategic Communications, Mr Bolaji Tunji, in Abuja on Friday.
Adelabu said the government’s focus this year would be on strengthening the national grid, expanding transmission infrastructure, and improving service delivery through closer collaboration with Electricity Distribution Companies (DisCos).
“Looking ahead, our focus remains unshakable: to deliver reliable, accessible, and sustainable electricity to power our homes, industries, and dreams,” the minister said.
He highlighted the Light Up Nigeria initiative as a priority, aimed at powering industrial clusters and agricultural hubs to stimulate economic growth and job creation. Renewable energy projects, including solar and hydropower, will also be scaled up to reach underserved communities.
Reflecting on 2025, Adelabu said the year was marked by strategic groundwork despite prevailing challenges. He noted that the Presidential Power Initiative, also known as the Siemens deal, had strengthened the grid and helped reduce frequent power outages.
“As Phase One of the PPI continues, we assure Nigerians of a strengthened grid that will make disturbances a thing of the past,” he added.
The minister also urged Nigerians to protect power infrastructure and embrace energy-efficient practices, describing these as vital contributions to national development.
Extending greetings to his kinsmen in Oyo State, Adelabu promised that the new year would bring measurable progress in the nation’s power sector.
“The journey ahead requires a united front. Governments, communities, the private sector, and citizens must partner to sustain reforms,” he said.
