NLC Ogun Executes 23 Projects Without Government Support — Chairman Benco

Despite prevailing economic challenges, the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), Ogun State Council, has completed 23 different projects without any financial assistance from the government, its Chairman, Comrade Hameed Benco Ademola, has revealed.

Comrade Benco made the disclosure during the 2025 Workers’ Day celebration held at the NLC Secretariat in Abeokuta, while receiving the General Manager of Fresh 107.9 FM, Abeokuta, Chief Goke Babalola, who was represented by the station’s Assistant General Manager, Dr. Adeyinka Adegbite, popularly known as Ọmọ-Bàbá-Tíṣà.

According to the NLC Chairman, the projects, all executed within his two-year tenure, were funded through internally generated revenue and voluntary contributions from stakeholders, without any reliance on government subvention.

“In the last two years, we have executed 23 projects without a single kobo from the government,” he said.

“We relied on our internal resources, goodwill from well-meaning individuals, and effective management of our funds.”

He recalled an instance where an individual offered him money to support the union. Rather than accept the cash, Comrade Benco said he advised the donor to execute a project directly at the secretariat.

Although hesitant at first, the individual eventually carried out the project, demonstrating what the chairman described as a commitment to transparency and purposeful leadership.

Responding, Dr. Adegbite lauded the Ogun State labour force for their resilience and unity. He reaffirmed Fresh 107.9 FM’s dedication to the cause of workers through impactful programming and advocacy.

“One of our flagship programmes has become a trusted voice for workers across the state. We remain committed to the promotion of labour welfare and justice,” he said.

The event was attended by leaders of various industrial unions and affiliates, who echoed calls for sustained solidarity, accountability, and improved working conditions across both public and private sectors.
