The New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) in Kano State has taken decisive action by suspending four of its prominent members in the National Assembly over allegations of engaging in anti-party activities.

PLATFORM TIMES reports that, the NNPP Chairperson in Kano, Hashimu Dungurawa, on Momday, cited recent actions by the lawmakers that were deemed contrary to the party’s core principles and objectives.

The affected lawmakers include Kawu Sumaila, who represents Kano South in the Senate; Abdullahi Sani Rogo, representing Rogo Federal Constituency; Abdullahi Rurum, representing Rano/Kibiya; and Ali Maadakin Gini, representing Dala Federal Constituency.

According to Dungurawa, these legislators, despite being elected under the NNPP banner, have allegedly conducted themselves in ways that undermine the party’s interests and values.

He specifically pointed to instances where the suspended members purportedly took actions independently of the party’s directives, including projects launched by Sumaila at his university without prior consultation with party officials.

“These members were granted automatic tickets during elections but have subsequently engaged in activities that are not in line with our party’s wishes,” Dungurawa remarked, expressing the party’s disappointment over the lawmakers’ conduct.

The NNPP chair further stated that the party remains open to resolving the issue through dialogue and that the suspension is pending a thorough investigation into the allegations leveled against the lawmakers.

He also hinted that depending on the outcome of the investigation, there is a possibility of reinstatement for those found innocent of the charges.
