The Lagos State Police Command has dismissed reports of a bomb threat at two private schools in Ikeja’s Government Reserved Area (GRA), confirming that no explosive device was found following a thorough security sweep.
The scare began around 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday, January 20, 2026, when the Human Resources Managers and Chief Security Officers of the schools separately reported receiving threatening messages on WhatsApp from an unknown number, claiming bombs had been planted on the premises.
The messages forced both schools to close their gates on Wednesday, sparking panic among students, staff, and parents.
In response, Commissioner of Police, CP Olohundare Jimoh, personally led a team of operatives—including the Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD), Chemical, Biological, Radiological and Nuclear (CBRN) Unit, Rapid Response Squad (RRS), and other tactical teams—to the schools for immediate assessment.
A statement from the Lagos Police spokesperson, SP Abimbola Adebisi, said, “A meticulous sweep of classrooms, administrative offices, halls, playgrounds, and surrounding areas yielded no explosive or hazardous materials.
The schools are therefore safe for resumption of academic and administrative activities.”
The Nigerian Army’s 9 Brigade Commander, Brigadier General Ayokunle Owolabi, also visited the schools yesterday, further reassuring the public of security measures in place.
SP Adebisi added that detectives are intensifying efforts to trace and apprehend the individual(s) behind the threatening messages. Police personnel have been strategically deployed to the schools to ensure round-the-clock safety.
She urged parents, guardians, and the public to remain calm, vigilant, and report any suspicious activity to the nearest police station or via emergency lines: 07061019374, 08065154338, 08063299264, 08039344870, and 09168630929.
The Lagos State Police Command reaffirmed its commitment to maintaining peace and public safety across the state.
