No Jailbreak In Kwara, Says Correctional Service

The Nigerian Correctional Service, Kwara State Command, has debunked reports of a jailbreak at any of its custodial facilities, describing the claim as misleading and unfounded.

The Command’s Public Relations Officer, CSC Philip Bamigbade, in a statement issued on Monday, said the attention of the service was drawn to a report by an online platform alleging that nine inmates escaped from a custodial centre in the state.

“It is therefore imperative to make this clarification to disabuse the minds of the public,” he stated.

Bamigbade explained that the facility where the alleged jailbreak occurred is a juvenile custodial centre under the control of the Kwara State Government, and not the Nigerian Correctional Service.

He noted that the Borstal Training Institute in Ilorin, which is the juvenile facility operated by the NCoS, remained secure and peaceful.

“The records from the Borstal Training Institute, Ilorin, as at the period of this release, 20th of April, 2025, show clearly that all inmates are intact and the facility is peaceful and calm,” the statement added.

Bamigbade reiterated the service’s commitment to maintaining the safe custody of legally interned individuals, urging members of the public to verify security-related reports before circulating them.

“The public is also enjoined to always seek clarifications on matters of public safety to avoid being misled,” he said.
