The Nigeria Police Force (NPF) has announced a significant milestone in its fight against cybercrime, with its cybercrime unit recovering over N8 billion and $115,000 in 2024.
According to a statement by Olumuyiwa Adejobi, the NPF spokesperson, the recovered funds have been returned to victims of cybercrime as part of the force’s commitment to justice and the protection of citizens in the digital age.
Adejobi disclosed that the unit’s operations resulted in the arrest and prosecution of 751 cybercrime offenders.
He added that the unit also confiscated 685 devices linked to cybercriminal activities, including 467 mobile phones, 137 laptops, 46 routers, four servers, one drone, and four Starlink devices.
According to him, the operations also led to the seizure of 16 houses, 39 plots of land, 14 land documents, and 26 vehicles, dismantling key infrastructures supporting cybercrime.
He also stated that the cybercrime unit apprehended four suspects — Douglass Victor, Egbo Martins, Lucky Adesunloye, and Ndifreke Joseph Moody — for cyber-related offences
Adejobi disclosed that in recognition of its efforts, the NPF Cybercrime Control Centre (NPF-NCCC) was awarded the title of Best Cybercrime Unit in Africa for 2024 by INTERPOL’s Cybercrime Directorate in Singapore.
He said the unit outperformed counterparts from 54 African countries.
“These achievements reflect the dedication of the Nigeria Police Force to fighting cybercrime and enhancing the safety of citizens in the digital space,” Adejobi said.
