NPFL: Finidi, Amuneke square off as Rivers United host Heartland in Port Harcourt

Two former internationals, Finidi George and Emmanuel Amuneke will battle for supremacy when their clubs, Rivers United and Heartland clash in a Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) matchday two encounter in Port Harcourt on Saturday (today).

Finidi and Amuneke were both in the running for the Super Eagles job earlier in the year before the former got the nod of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF).

Former Ajax winger Finidi has, however, returned to club football after his short stint with the Super Eagles.

Rivers United started the 2024/25 season with an impressive 0-0 away draw against Bendel Insurance.

The former NPFL champions played the majority of the second half with 10-men following goalkeeper, Bamidele Adeniyi’s dismissal.

Heartland on the other hand lost 3-1 at home to oriental rivals Enyimba.
