The National Rescue Movement (NRM) has issued a stern warning to the public over what it described as an act of impersonation by one Yemi Ali, who is allegedly parading himself as the chairman of the party in Ogun State.
In a statement issued on Saturday by the party’s spokesperson, Akeem Sadiku, the NRM distanced itself from Ali, saying he has no legitimate ties to the party’s leadership structure in the state.
Sadiku maintained that Comrade Olujobi Fayoyin remains the only duly recognised chairman of the party in Ogun, stressing that his leadership enjoys the official backing of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
“The claim by Yemi Ali is entirely baseless and an act of impersonation. The NRM in Ogun State has one recognized leader, and that is Comrade Olujobi Fayoyin,” the statement read.
The party described Ali’s activities as spurious and aimed at misleading the public, alleging that he was working to sow confusion within its ranks and derail its mission of delivering credible governance to the people.
It further dismissed any notion of a parallel leadership within the NRM in Ogun as false, insisting the party remains united and focused under Fayoyin’s leadership.
“The suggestion of a faction or internal division is a deliberate falsehood intended to weaken our growing popularity among Ogun residents,” the party stated.
The NRM accused Ali of making a “desperate and calculated attempt” to sabotage its reform-driven agenda and reaffirmed its commitment to transparency, accountability, and the welfare of the masses.
Fayoyin, who also spoke on behalf of the party, reiterated that the NRM would not be distracted by “antics of impersonation” and would continue to offer an alternative political platform committed to good governance.
He described the alleged impersonation as one of the many hurdles faced by opposition parties working to challenge the status quo but assured that the NRM was prepared to withstand any pressure.
“Let it be known that any meetings, press briefings, or declarations purportedly made by Yemi Ali are not sanctioned by the National Rescue Movement.
“These are unauthorized activities by someone with no standing in our party,” the party warned.
It called on security agencies and relevant stakeholders to investigate the matter and take necessary actions to forestall further attempts to discredit the party.
The NRM also advised media organisations, political stakeholders, and the general public to disregard any communications issued by Ali in the party’s name, warning that any engagement with him could amount to aiding illegality.
Fayoyin appreciated the loyalty of party faithful across the 20 local government areas of the state, affirming that the NRM remains on course to rescue Ogun from “decades of misrule and failed leadership.”
“We are here to rescue Ogun State from the grip of incompetence and misgovernance,” he declared.
He urged residents to remain vigilant and continue supporting the NRM in its quest to provide a credible political alternative ahead of future elections.
