No fewer than 25 trafficked children have been retrieved by operatives of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, while a suspected child trafficker alongside 22 foster fathers were arrested.
The NSCDC operatives of the Kogi State Command while confirming this ,said arrangement has been concluded to repatriate the 25 children that were reportedly trafficked from Kaduna to Kogi State.
While parading the suspects, the state Commandant of the corps, CD Ahmad Ahmad Gandi said that the operation was spearheaded by an intelligence received on a child roaming about the street.
Speaking at the state headquarters in Lokoja, Ahmad disclosed that the Intel received on 20th of April gave the lead that led to the arrest of the suspected trafficker who pointed out 22 foster fathers who were subsequently arrested by the operatives.
The suspect, Matthew Joseph who hails from Kajuru LGA in Southern Kaduna, was alleged of trafficking a 13 year-old boy, Mustapha Sanni from Kaduna to Kogi State.
Joseph, upon interrogation disclosed that he ventured into trafficking in order to help alleviate the suffering of his people from the bandits terrorizing the state.
He disclosed that he approached the pitiable families who willingly offered their children to him for relocation.
He added that he distributed the children to different households in Lokoja where they would be taken care of.
Ahmad, the State Corps Commandant stressed that Governor Yahya Bello has given support to the Corps to ensure that the trafficked children are repatriated and reunited with their parents.
