The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Bauchi State Command, has intercepted a truck conveying vandalised railway tracks and arrested five suspects in a major operation against infrastructure sabotage.
The corps’ spokesperson, ASC Saminu Yusuf, disclosed this in a statement issued on Friday, saying the suspects were apprehended during a routine patrol along a major highway in the state.
Yusuf said the truck was found loaded with large quantities of railway materials suspected to have been removed from operational rail lines, posing a serious threat to public safety and national infrastructure.
He described the arrest as a significant breakthrough in the command’s ongoing efforts to curb vandalism and economic sabotage, stressing that such acts undermine government investments and endanger lives.
“The suspects are currently in custody and will be prosecuted after preliminary investigations are concluded,” he said, adding that efforts were ongoing to trace the source and destination of the vandalised materials.
The NSCDC spokesman reaffirmed the command’s commitment to protecting critical national assets and called on residents to provide timely information that could help security agencies prevent similar crimes.
Railway infrastructure vandalism has remained a major challenge across the country, often disrupting transport services and causing huge financial losses to the government.
