An officer of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps has died following an incident during the distribution of Ramadan and Sallah palliatives in Tudun Wada Local Government Area of Kano State.
The palliative distribution exercise was organised by the member representing Doguwa/Tudun Wada Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, Alhassan Ado Doguwa.
Confirming the development on Saturday, the Public Relations Officer of the NSCDC in Kano, Ibrahim Abdullahi, said the command had commenced a comprehensive investigation into the circumstances surrounding the officer’s death.
“Yes, it is true. The commandant has ordered a thorough investigation into the matter. When the process is concluded, the command will issue a press statement detailing the full circumstances of the incident,” Abdullahi said.
Meanwhile, Doguwa alleged that the tragic incident occurred after suspected hoodlums attempted to disrupt the palliative distribution programme.
According to the lawmaker, the security officer lost his life in the ensuing disorder triggered by the alleged attempt to sabotage the exercise.
“I was informed that some hoodlums attempted to cause disorder during the distribution exercise, an incident that resulted in the death of a Civil Defence security officer,” Doguwa said.
The lawmaker expressed shock over the development and extended condolences to the NSCDC, the family of the deceased officer and residents of Tudun Wada.
“I extend my heartfelt condolences to the Civil Defence Corps, the family of the deceased and the entire people of Tudun Wada Local Government Area. May Allah have mercy on him and forgive him,” he added.
Doguwa also called on security agencies to carry out a thorough investigation into the incident and ensure that those responsible are brought to justice.
He further appealed to members of the public to refrain from spreading misinformation linking him to the attack, insisting that the palliative programme was organised to support residents during the ongoing Ramadan fasting period.
