The National Senior Secondary Education Commission (NSSEC) has flagged off a nationwide Quality Assurance Monitoring and Evaluation exercise, to raise secondary schools standards in Kaduna State.

The initiative, “which aligns with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda”, was launched at the Federal Government College, Malali, Kaduna.

The programme is designed to assess the performance of senior secondary schools, identify challenges, and promote best practices in teaching and learning nationwide.

Speaking at the launch, the Executive Secretary of NSSEC, Dr. Iyela Ajayi, described the initiative as “a pivotal moment in our collective pursuit of excellence in education.”

“This initiative is not merely a bureaucratic exercise; it is a testament to our commitment to the future of our nation. The quality of education we provide today will determine the success of tomorrow,” Dr. Ajayi said.

According to him, the monitoring and evaluation process will help identify strengths and weaknesses in schools, set clear performance benchmarks, and empower educators with the tools needed to enhance their teaching.

“Through rigorous monitoring and evaluation, we aim to pinpoint areas where schools are excelling and areas where improvements are needed,” he added. “Our goal is to ensure that every learner receives a quality education that prepares them for success in higher education and beyond.”

Dr. Ajayi noted that NSSEC had developed National Minimum Standards for Senior Secondary Education, which were approved at the 68th National Council of Education in October 2024. These standards now form the benchmark for all senior secondary schools across the country.

The Kaduna State Commissioner for Education, Professor Muhammad Bello, expressed gratitude for the state’s selection as the launch site for the initiative. Represented by Usman Zaria, Director of the State Schools Quality Assurance Authority, Bello said the program fills a crucial gap in the state’s education system.

Bello pledged Kaduna State’s full support for NSSEC’s efforts and stressed the importance of collaboration between federal and state agencies to transform education delivery.
