The Ogun State coordinator of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), Nasamu Olayinka Diana, has refuted claims circulating in the media regarding the alleged death of a corps member serving in the state.
Contrary to reports that a corpse was found in a bush near the Kadesh area of Ogijo, Sagamu, Ogun state, Nasamu insists that the deceased was not affiliated with the NYSC.
Reports surfaced on Sunday, suggesting that residents discovered the body of an unidentified corps member and promptly informed the police.ย
Nasamu, however, dismissed these claims, asserting that investigations by the police revealed the deceased was a mason, not a corps member.
“The person found in Ogijo bush was not a corps member; he was a bricklayer.ย
โYou cannot label someone as a corps member without verifying their corps number and place of primary assignment. Nothing identified him as a corps member,” Nasamu stated.
She emphasized the importance of precision when reporting on the death of a corps member, highlighting the unique identification numbers assigned to them.
ย The Commissioner of Police corroborated Nasamu’s statement, confirming that the deceased was not a corps member.
Nasamu also provided context, mentioning that there are currently 19,970 corps members serving across the 20 local government areas of Ogun State.
