The Sagamu Orientation Camp in Ogun State was a hub of colours, rhythms, and cultural pride as the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) hosted a vibrant Cultural Carnival to mark the 2024 Batch C Stream One Orientation Course.

Sponsored by Source Microfinance Bank and Mega Thandi Restaurant, the event celebrated Nigeria’s rich cultural heritage and diversity through the creativity and passion of Corps Members.

The NYSC Ogun State Coordinator, Mrs. Olayinka Diana Nasamu, officially opened the carnival with a call to unity, urging Corps Members to embrace the beauty in Nigeria’s cultural diversity.

“There is beauty in our diversity,” she said, emphasizing the equality of all cultures while encouraging participants to take pride in representing their assigned cultural groups.

The carnival featured Corps Members showcasing ten distinct Nigerian cultures, with each platoon displaying unique elements such as traditional attire, marriage customs, and local delicacies.

The performances captivated the audience, highlighting the unifying essence of Nigeria’s heritage.

Platoon 7 emerged as the standout performers, clinching the grand prize of ₦50,000 for their dynamic representation of the Yoruba culture.

Platoon 3 secured the second position with a ₦30,000 prize for their portrayal of Fulani culture, while Platoon 9 earned ₦20,000 in third place for their depiction of the Itsekiri culture.

In his remarks, the Honourable Commissioner for Youth and Sports Development, Hon. Wasiu Isiaka, lauded the NYSC for using such initiatives to foster national unity.

“This event is a testament to the power of culture in uniting people,” he said, pledging that future editions of the carnival would have the full support of the Ogun State Government, with the Commissioner for Culture and other officials in attendance.

Dignitaries at the event included the Executive Chairman of Yewa North LGA, Hon. Dr. Olusola Akinbode; the Vice Chairman of Sagamu LGA, Comrade Isiaka Salami; the Special Adviser to the Governor on Youth, Mr. Olumide Lawal; and the Special Adviser to the Governor on Finance, Dr. Bayo Adenekan.

Adding to the day’s excitement were thrilling displays by the Man-O-War group and the announcement of winners for the Big, Bold, and Beautiful competition. The event concluded
