Former President Olusegun Obasanjo, alongside other prominent personalities, ushered in the New Year with celebration and reflection at the residence of Dr. Gbenga Adeoye, a notable philanthropist and community leader, in Ibara GRA, Abeokuta.
The event, held on January 1, 2025, brought together an array of distinguished guests from various walks of life, underscoring Abeokuta’s reputation for warmth and elegance.
Chief Olusegun Obasanjo, in his New Year message, called on all Egbas to strive toward making Abeokuta a more welcoming and vibrant city.
“We must ensure that Abeokuta is a place so comfortable that no one who visits would want to leave,” Obasanjo said.
He emphasized the city’s strategic proximity to Lagos and praised Dr. Gbenga Adeoye’s relentless efforts in contributing to the development of Egbaland and Ogun State.
The event also featured a powerful sermon by Pastor Funmi Kushimo, popularly known as Apostle, who encouraged attendees to hold steadfastly to their faith in God.
“Those who trust in the Lord will experience a year filled with divine blessings,” he proclaimed.
Among the notable religious leaders present were Pastor Paul Adeniyi Daniel, Pastor Lanre Adeboye, and Pastor Isaac Akogun, who joined in praying for a prosperous year ahead.
The celebration saw an impressive lineup of dignitaries, including: Hon. Kayode Amusan, Senator Gbenga Obadara, Chief Shina Luwoye, founder of Ecogas and former PENGASSAN president, Chief Tokunbo Odebunmi, Chairman, Ogun State Civil Service Commission ,Mr. Tunde Aroyeun, former CBN Director, and Mr. Yinka Chris Coker, President of the Egba Economic Summit.
Other attendees included high-profile business leaders, professionals, and alumni of Elyon College and Leadership Academy.
Family members, friends, and staff of Dr. Adeoye’s various enterprises also joined in the celebration.
In his vote of thanks, Dr. Gbenga Adeoye expressed gratitude to Chief Obasanjo and all attendees for gracing the occasion. He urged everyone to embrace kindness and work toward making Egbaland, Ogun State, and Nigeria a better place to live.
“As Chinua Achebe once said, your presence here is not because you lack food in your homes but because of the love we share,” he remarked.
Dr. Adeoye also shared a prophetic vision for 2025, declaring it a year of “God’s Manifestation of Power and Glory,” and expressed optimism that the coming months would bring extraordinary blessings.
