Former President Olusegun on Friday led christians on a Bible Walk in Abeokuta the Ogun State capital.
The walk which was organized by the Bible Society of Nigeria (BSN) Egba Area was to commemorate the 2023 World Bible Day.
The Octogenarian who is also the Asiwaju Onigbagbo of Ogun State led the walk from Ibara Baptist Church till Sapon before he departed for an urgent assignment.
Recall that Obasanjo had led old students of Baptist Boys High School, Abeokuta in an 18km walk on their 100th anniversary walk.
Obasanjo picked a fast pace, a show-off of his fitness during the walk as others had to run to catch up.
Also on the walk were BSN national President, Bishop Dr. Olubunmi Banwo alongside the Egba Area chairman, Pastor Dr. Akinpelu Ojo who led the walk till the endpoint at the Alake Palace, Ake Abeokuta.
The Alake and Paramount ruler, Oba Dr. Adedotun Gbadebo while receiving members of the society at his Ake palace congratulated BSN and made commitment to continue supporting the christian body in its projects.
Alake also narrated the role played by the Egbas in the historical coming of the Bible and Christianity to Nigeria.
The Paramount ruler also hosted the visitors in the Friday prayer held at the palace chapel.
Earlier in his address, the national President, Dr. Banwo highlighted the importance of the occasion for the society and christians at large.
He urged faithfuls to continue to rely and the word of God and keep to the instructions.
In his words, “today is set aside by the Bible Society for world Bible day as part of the Bible week to acknowledge the developments the bible and christian society have experienced.
“This walk staged by the Egba area will be pushed as a national template to be adopted in other part of the country to celebrate the world Bible day. This will add to many of the firsts that Egba is known for in the christian circle.
“At the conclusion of this walk, I want our people, christians and others to trust more in reading if the word of God. It has proven to be effective and it never fails.”
He recounted how the first Bible got into Nigeria during the time of the first missionary, Henry Townsend.
On his part, the Egba Area chairman, Ojo urged christians to do in accordance to what they preach and in the fear of God.
“All christians should walk the talk, we have celebrated, so whatever the bible instructs should be our guide.we should do everything in the fear of God,” he said.
The walk also featured brief history of Christianity and impacts in Egbaland and sight seeing to the first Bible in Nigeria.
