Obaship Tussle: Two Traditional Chiefs, Senior Civil Servants Indicted Of Forgery, Impersonation

The serene town of IgboGila in Ogun State has been engulfed in a tumultuous struggle for the throne of the Olu of IgboGila following the passing of HRH Oba Ebenezer Osungbade Olanloye.

PLATFORM TIMES reports that what initially seemed like a customary transition has spiraled into a bitter feud, implicating prominent figures and tarnishing the community’s tranquility.

Residents, speaking on the condition of anonymity, shed light on alleged manipulations by the Olanloye and Akinlolu of Kaatola Royal Family, allegedly in cahoots with the Oshin Family, the late Kabiyesi’s immediate kin.

PLATFORM TIMES further gathered that the move was reportedly to derail the rightful ascension of the Esubiyi Kaatola Royal Family to the throne of IgboGila.

A key informant, speaking on behalf of the community, hinted at the underlying motive behind the power struggle—a lucrative prospect of industrialization in the area.

This, they claim, has spurred a faction of stakeholders, predominantly residing in Abeokuta, to aggressively push for the installation of their preferred candidate.

An official letter dated April 2018, purportedly signed by the late Kabiyesi, directed the Basorun of IgboGila to act on his behalf, but its authenticity has come under scrutiny.

kingmakers, led by Chief Oyelola Zacheus Alani and others, vehemently opposed what they termed illegal installations and appointments orchestrated by the Olanloye family, allegedly comprising two senior civil servants in Abeokuta.

In a bid to uncover the truth, ousted chiefs sought recourse with the Police Forensic Science Laboratory, FCID Alagbon, to authenticate the late Kabiyesi’s signature on the allegedly forged appointment letters.

Shockingly, a report from the DCP in charge of forensic examination confirmed the forgery, implicating individuals familiar with the late monarch’s signature.

Consequently, the affected chiefs have been summoned by the Force CID, Alagbon, to provide statements challenging the authenticity of the signatures on the replacement letters.

In response to the escalating crisis, the Esubiyi Ajado Royal Family and other traditional chiefs have turned to the High Court of Ogun State, filing an Originating Summon on March 1st, 2024.

Their aim was  to seek justice and restore order amidst allegations of abuse of power.
