Residents of Akwa Ibom State are going about their normal and lawful duties unmolested as the youths did not take part in the nationwide October 1 protest.

A walk by our correspondent around the strategic locations in the Uyo metropolis such as the Ibom Plaza, Nwaniba water fountain and the Cenotaph along Udo Udoma Avenue where protesters normally converge revealed that there was no sign of a gathering.

At the popular Ibom Plaza, people were only seen in clusters discussing bad governance and hike in petroleum products, some were selling wares while few others were seen glued to newspapers

At the Cenotaph, there was still no sign of protest as the place was empty and bereft of social activities with few police and other security operatives stationed at strategic locations.

Very few private vehicles could be seen on the road due to the high cost of fuel.

Recall that the state governor, Umo Eno had donated the sum of N310m to appreciate the youths for not participating in the previous #EndBadgovernance protest.

The Commissioner of Police, CP Joseph Eribo, had, while fielding questions from journalists during his maiden press conference on Monday, said the command had made adequate deployment for the protest.
