In a strategic move to combat poverty and boost agricultural development, Hon. Lukmon Atobatele, Deputy Minority Leader of the Ogun State House of Assembly, has launched an ambitious agricultural training and empowerment program for constituents.
Speaking in Abeokuta during a meticulously organized interview session, Hon. Atobatele emphasized the critical role agriculture plays in alleviating poverty nationwide.
He highlighted that his training and empowerment scheme is not just a political promise but a dedicated effort to support genuine farmers who can create lasting positive impacts.
“The essence of the interview is to ensure we train and empower those who are genuine farmers and who truly would create multiplier effects.
“We are starting with agriculturists to produce more food and reduce unemployment,” stated Hon. Atobatele, representing Abeokuta South State Constituency 1.
The agricultural empowerment scheme, slated to commence in January 2024, aims to train successful candidates on a fully consolidated modern farm for a comprehensive ninety-day program.
In the initial phase, 64 candidates out of the 140 interested individuals have been selected.
Hon. Atobatele assured the community of additional phases in the program, emphasizing the gradual expansion of this impactful initiative.
Commending the Deputy Minority Leader’s visionary approach, Mr. Jamiu Ismail, Deputy Director of the Ministry of Agriculture in Ogun State, expressed appreciation, stating, “This is a good effort to create job opportunities and enhance food production in the country.”
