The 20 Local Government Areas of Ogun State have received the sum of N6.3b as their April 2023 from Federation Account Allocation .
The Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Ganiyu Hamzat, who was represented by the Permanent Secretary in the Ministry, Dr. Rotimiolu Akinlesi disclosed this at the Joint Account Allocation Committee (JAAC) Meeting for May 2023, held at the Oba’s Conference Hall, Oke-Mosan, Abeokuta.
The commissioner stated that the total shared amount of N6,348,074,987 includes Statutory Shares, Value-Added Taxes (VAT), Electronic Money Transfer Levy (EMTL), Solid Mineral, Non-Mineral, Forex Equalization and Subsidy Reinvestment and Empowerment Program (SURE-P) for the month of April 2023.
He revealed that the slight surplus would accommodate all the first line charges that represented joint contributions from all local councils for May 2023, without recourse to the State government for augmentation.
He noted that the level of development in the LGAs from time to time would be addressed during the meetings.
Speaking at the meeting, the Commissioner for Finance and Chief Economic Adviser to the Governor, Dapo Okubadejo, represented by the Director of the State Treasury, Arinola Adetayo, said the sum of N6,348,074,987 was received as April 2023 shares from federal allocation to the 20 Local Councils in the State, compared to what was received in March, which stood at N3,812,189,793.
The Commissioner mentioned that the sum of N4,531,198,751 would be needed for the payment of first-line charges, which included Primary School Teachers’ Salaries, Local Government Staffs’ Salaries, Pensions, Traditional Councils, and Statutory Payments to the Local Government Service Commission.
According to him, other charges include, May 2023 Leave Bonuses to the State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB) and Local Government Staff.
He further stated that five percent Bond Pension, which amounted to a sum of N313,754,339 were excluded from the first line charges, while the sum of N2,130,621,574 remains as a net surplus for the month.
Responding, the Chairman, Association of Local Government of Nigeria (ALGON), Hon. Babatunde Emiola-Gazal, expressed satisfaction over the disbursement of allocation for the month.
