A former senator and governorship aspirant on the platform of the All Progressives Congress in Ogun State, Iyabo Obasanjo, on Monday held a closed-door meeting with President Bola Tinubu in Lagos, where she formally briefed him on her 2027 governorship ambition.
Sources privy to the meeting disclosed that the discussion centred on Obasanjo’s plan to contest the Ogun State governorship election, with the former lawmaker presenting her vision for governance, infrastructure development and improved public service delivery in the state.
It was gathered that Obasanjo used the opportunity to outline her strategic priorities, emphasising the need for inclusive growth and sustainable development if elected into office.
The APC chieftain also reportedly reflected on her long-standing political relationship with Tinubu, describing it as one forged through years of engagement and mutual respect.
She noted that the relationship had significantly influenced her political trajectory and leadership philosophy.
During the meeting, Obasanjo reaffirmed her loyalty to the ruling party and pledged commitment to its ideals, assuring the President of her readiness to mobilise grassroots support ahead of the next general elections.
She also expressed willingness to play an active role in Tinubu’s re-election bid, underscoring her dedication to strengthening the party’s electoral fortunes.
Political observers say the meeting forms part of ongoing consultations and realignments within the APC, as key stakeholders position themselves ahead of the 2027 general elections in Ogun State and across the country.
