The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ogun State has criticized the Peoples Democratic Party’s (PDP) call for a rerun of the just-concluded gubernatorial election in the state.
The APC’s state Publicity Secretary, Tunde Oladunjoye, described the PDP’s demand as baseless and indicative of the party and its promoter, ex-Governor Ibikunle Amosun, being “sore losers.”
In a statement released on Sunday in Abeokuta, Oladunjoye said, “it is unfortunate that we have to react to this baseless demand purportedly from PDP, but intriguingly published by one of Amosun’s lackeys, even when major newspapers are yet to report or give details of the governorship election results.”
He added, “With their failure at the polls, it is still appearing to them as a dream because it is unbelievable to them that they could lose the election despite the humongous ill-gotten wealth and violence that the grandstanders displayed and deployed.”
Commenting on the involvement of the late mother of PDP’s gubernatorial candidate, Ladi Adebutu, in alleged electoral bribery, Oladunjoye said it was “glaring disrespect for the dead” and an “acute moral deficiency” on Adebutu’s part.
He urged the PDP to accept the election results and refrain from causing provocation.
The APC also called on its supporters to remain calm and avoid any act of violence, saying, “we urge our supporters to keep faith with us and just like our governor, be magnanimous in victory, avoid provocation, and report any threat to peace to the nearest police station.”
