The Ogun State House of Assembly has passed the State College of Health Technology Law, 2006 to law, to upgrade the institution to a full-fledged polytechnic of Health and Allied Sciences.

The bill titled “H.B No 089/OG/2023-Re-passage of the Ogun State College of Health Technology (Amendment) Law, 2006” was passed during the plenary session presided over by Speaker Olakunle Oluomo at the Assembly Complex, Oke-Mosan.

According to the Chairman of the House Committee on Education, Science, and Technology, Hon. Adeyemi Ademuyiwa, the bill will provide an opportunity for the institution to access relevant Federal Government funds, especially TETFUND, for more infrastructural upgrades.

Ademuyiwa added that the new polytechnic status will enable the institution to offer additional medical and technological programs to produce quality human resources for medical and technological advancement in the state and the nation.

Speaking on the passage of the bill, Majority Leader Yusuf Sheriff said, “We are happy to pass this bill, as it will bring more opportunities for our youths to get quality education in the medical and technological fields.”

The Clerk and Head of Legislative Service, Mr. ‘Deji Adeyemo, took the third reading of the bill before the lawmakers, and Speaker Oluomo directed that the clean copy of the bill be forwarded to the Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun for his assent.

Recall, during his reelection campaign tour of Ijebu North East Local Government, Governor Dapo Abiodun, promised to upgrade the College of Health Technology in Ilese-Ijebu to Ogun State Polytechnic of Health and Allied Sciences.

Abiodun also announced that a new rector would be appointed for the institution soon.

He explained that upgrading the institution was necessary to improve its quality and broaden its curriculum.

Speaking to the students, Governor Abiodun pointed out that he was simply exercising his legal authority by making the announcement, and that his rivals had only made empty promises.
