The Ogun State House of Assembly Committee on Public Accounts and Anti-Corruption has issued summons to key figures, including a former Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Waheed Odusile, and Senior Special Assistant to the governor on New Media,SF OJo Emmanuel, for an alleged misappropriation totaling N92.9 million.
The committee, led by Hon. Damilare Bello, convened on Monday to address financial infractions outlined in audit reports for the years 2021 and 2022.
Notably, Emmanuel was accused of receiving N2.5 million in his personal account under the guise of office equipment, while Odusile and others face allegations of alleged fund misuse within the ministry.
According to the Committee, ” it was observed from the available records and bank statements of the Agency that N2,515,590.00 was transferred to the personal accounts of Mr. Ojo Emmanuel, Special Adviser on Media for the purchase of working tools for OGSG New Media Team”.
The Assembly said that the summoned officials, including former Permanent Secretary Mr. Abiodun Awere and the Director of Finance and Accounts, are expected to appear before the Committee on Thursday, 29th February 2024, at 1:00 pm to provide clarifications on the expenditures.
Bello emphasized the need for transparency, highlighting a breach of due process, stating, “Funds should be transferred directly to vendors’ bank accounts and not individual personal accounts for the purpose of accountability.”
Additionally, the Committee directed the Ministry’s Director of Finance and Accounts to provide details on the N2.51 million transfer to Emmanuel’s personal account, citing financial regulations violation.
In response, Permanent Secretary Mr. Adesina assured the Committee of corrective measures and commitment to promoting accountability and transparency within the Ministry.
In a related development, the Committee examined financial records of the State Library Board for 2021 and 2022, directing former officials to appear for clarification on reported issues and urging the submission of supporting documents within seven days.
