The Ogun State Customs Service has achieved a remarkable revenue generation of N12.8 billion within the past six months, marking a significant improvement compared to the same period last year.
This was disclosed by Comptroller Olusola Bisi, the Customs Area Controller, during a press briefing at the Ogun II Area Command on Friday.
Comptroller Bisi further explained that the success record is owed to the commitment of the service operatives who worked immensely to ensure that the target given to the service is met, and eventually exceeded.
He reiterated the services commitment to boosting the nation’s economy through the core mandate of the command which remains generation of revenue for the Federal Government, facilitation of legitimate trade and to Protect National Economy Security.
Highlighting the achievements, Comptroller Bisi said, “The Command generated twelve billion, eight hundred and thirty million, four hundred and ninety-three thousand, six hundred and thirty-naira, six kobo (N12,830,493,630.06) as revenue for the period under review.
“This can be compared to eight billion, five hundred and five million, thirty-eight thousand, eight hundred and eighteen-naira, thirty kobo (N8,505,038,818.30) generated in the corresponding period of last year, 2023. There is therefore a differential of N4,326,454,811.76, which is a significant improvement by 51%.”
Bisi, attributing the achievement to the efforts of the officers, stated that “diligence, professionalism, and commitment of our officers and men who worked tirelessly to ensure that we met and exceeded the revenue targets given to our command. It is also indicative of our steadfast commitment to the growth of our national economy.”
The Comptroller detailed the revenue collection across recent months, stating, “In April, we raked in three billion, four hundred and eighty-six million, nine hundred and sixty-one thousand, one hundred eighty-six-naira, seventy-one kobo (N3,486,961,186.71).
“In May, we made two billion, eight hundred and one million, eight hundred and thirty-three thousand, seven hundred and forty-naira, forty kobo (N2,801,833,739.40). While in June, our revenue collection leaped to three billion, six hundred and sixty-four million, seven hundred and seventy-six thousand, four hundred and ninety-nine-naira, seven kobo (N3,664,776,499.07).”
He assured the public that the command would continue to implement necessary measures to improve collections with support from other units of the service.
Bisi emphasized maintaining success through synergy, continued dialogue, and engagement with local and trader communities while enforcing compliance with government fiscal policies.
“The success recorded in the last three months can be attributed to good motivation from the service management, which boosted the morale of officers and kept them in high spirits. Intelligence and reconnaissance by the monitoring unit of the service led to the discovery of some factories now under excise control,” Bisi explained.
Listing the newly registered factories, Bisi said, “These factories, which are now under different stages of registration, include Sygen Pharmaceutical Limited, Sprout and Kingsberg Nigeria Limited, Adesouthern Nigeria Limited, Abraham & Sarah Beverages Nigeria Limited, Oyinloye Honey Double Crown, Oluyemi Akintan Nigeria Enterprises, Lorna Nigeria Limited, Makindez Multi-business Ventures, Digo Herbal Remedy Limited, Broadway Food & Beverages Limited, Beezun Flavoured Drinks, and Nellyvan Global Limited (Bonded terminal).”
He commended the dedication of officers and cooperation from other units, particularly the Customs Intelligence Unit and Customs Police Unit, for their prompt actions that contributed to the command’s success.
“Our achievement aligns with the policy drive of the Comptroller General of Customs, Bashir Adewale Adeniyi (MFR), who operates under the principle of consolidation, collaboration, and innovation. His visionary leadership and enabling support have been crucial in heightening our potential and driving these spectacular results,” Bisi added.
In conclusion, Bisi urged factories to ensure timely payment of appropriate excise duties and other charges, appreciating those who are compliant and encouraging newly discovered factories to adhere to the Nigerian Customs Service Act 2023.
