The Deputy Governor of Ogun State, Engr. Noimot Salako-Oyedele, has emphasized the importance of accurate and factual journalism, urging journalists to uphold integrity in their reporting to foster an informed and orderly society.

Engr. Salako-Oyedele delivered this charge during the 9th Annual Ramadan Lecture organized by the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Information Chapel. Held at the premises of the Ogun State Ministry of Information and Strategy in Abeokuta, the lecture theme was “Islamic Response to Global Economic Crisis.”

Addressing journalists as the Fourth Estate of the Realm, she cautioned against disseminating information that could exacerbate tensions, particularly during challenging times.

She emphasized the need for objectivity and the avoidance of personal biases in reporting, stating that journalism should aim to quell conflicts rather than inflame them.

The Deputy Governor commended the organizers of the event for their consistency and relevance, advising participants to reflect on the teachings of Ramadan and strive for good citizenship.

In his remarks, the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Information and Strategy, Alhaji Waheed Adesina, praised the Chapel for its steadfastness in organizing Ramadan lectures, emphasizing the importance of spiritual reflection and compassion, especially amid economic and socio-political challenges.

The guest lecturer, Sheikh Alh. Abdulwaheed Badrudeen, highlighted the significance of governing with the fear of Allah and urged leaders to prioritize the welfare of the populace amidst economic hardships.

He called for prayers for national leadership to steer the country in the right direction.

Chairman of the event, Alhaji Agboola Kadiri, applauded Islam for providing guidance during crises and commended the Chapel’s efforts in educating Muslim faithful during Ramadan.

NUJ Information Chapel Chairman, Mr. Femi Osipitan, affirmed the Chapel’s commitment to the spiritual well-being of its members, encouraging attendees to benefit from the lecture beyond its educational value.
