Ogun Govt.  Lauds TETFUND Over Constant Intervention

The Ogun State Government has praised the Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TETFUND) for its ongoing support and interventions in the state’s higher institutions of learning. 

Governor Prince Dapo Abiodun, represented by his Deputy, Engr. Noimot Salako-Oyedele,said the  support has significantly contributed to the improvement of academic performance among students.

The governor commended TETFUND during a meeting with members of the House of Representatives Committee on Tertiary Education Trust Fund and other Services. 

The committee, led by its Chairman, Hon. Mariam Onuoha, was in Ogun State on an oversight function.

 Abiodun expressed his satisfaction with TETFUND’s visible presence in the state’s higher institutions, highlighting that his administration is committed to supporting all efforts to ensure that beneficiary institutions access all available interventions.

“Ogun is the education capital of Nigeria and has a long-standing history of superlative educational legacies alongside the achievements of its citizenry.

“ The pro-activeness of the House Committee towards fast-tracking the process of retrieving the allocated but not yet accessed TETFUND interventions for higher institutions in the state, domiciled with the Central Bank of Nigeria, is commendable,” the governor stated.

He emphasized that the importance his administration places on the education sector is paramount, and accessing the funds by institutions would significantly enhance teaching, learning, and the development of human resources.

Hon. Mariam Onuoha, in her remarks, explained that the committee was in Ogun State to address the issue of the accumulated N500 billion TETFUND interventions that had not been accessed by various states.

 She announced that a resolution had been reached to relax some of the stringent provisions that had previously hindered institutions from accessing these funds.

“We are here to ensure that the funds meant for educational development are utilized effectively. 

The resolution to relax some of the stringent provisions will enable the affected institutions to have access to the funds,” Onuoha stated.

She also called on stakeholders to support the committee’s efforts to enable them to perform their tasks effectively.

This visit and the subsequent discussions highlight the Ogun State Government’s commitment to improving its educational sector and the crucial role of TETFUND in facilitating this development.
