The Ogun State Government has cautioned stakeholders in charge of the Conditional Cash Transfer Programme to guard against unscrupulous individuals who may attempt to sabotage the initiative aimed at alleviating poverty.
The Head of Service, Mr. Kehinde Onasanya, gave the warning during a stakeholders’ sensitisation meeting on the National Social Safety Nets Programme Scale Up (NASSP-SU) held in Abeokuta.
Onasanya, who was represented by the Permanent Secretary, Bureau of Public Service Reforms, Mr. Jola Oyeneye, stressed that stakeholders must remain vigilant against manipulators and other unjust practices capable of undermining the programme.
He assured that both the Federal and Ogun State governments remained committed to implementing policies and programmes that would improve the living standards of vulnerable citizens.
“Governor Dapo Abiodun’s administration will never pay lip service to poverty reduction initiatives. Stakeholders must therefore uphold the government’s reputation by ensuring that only verified beneficiaries access the programme,” Onasanya declared.
In her remarks, the State Focal Person for the programme and Commissioner for Special Duties and Intergovernmental Affairs, Hon. Olufunmilayo Efuwape, commended the stakeholders for their dedication.
She emphasised the need for continuous sensitisation at the grassroots level through religious leaders, traditional rulers, and ward representatives across the 20 local government areas.
Earlier, the Permanent Secretary in the ministry, Mr. Lateef Benson, urged participants to work collectively to ensure the successful implementation of the Federal Government’s Renewed Hope Agenda.
The State Programme Manager, Mrs. Funmi Baker, explained that the meeting was convened to strengthen collaboration, assess the level of community support, and discuss sustainability strategies for the cash transfer scheme.
A community leader from Abeokuta South, Alhaji Adedamola Fatai, lauded the government’s efforts, pledging that beneficiaries in his domain would put the funds to proper use and help create further awareness about the initiative.
Stakeholders present at the meeting included representatives of Community Development Associations, the National Orientation Agency (NOA), News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), security agencies, the National Identity Management Commission (NIMC), as well as desk officers from all 20 local government areas in the state.
