The Ogun State Muslim Council (OMC) has charged intending pilgrims from the state and across the country to conduct themselves with discipline and decorum during the 2025 Hajj exercise.
Speaking at a farewell event held in Abeokuta for the state’s contingent, the Council warned that any act of indiscipline—whether deliberate or unintended—could tarnish Nigeria’s image and hinder the overall success of the religious pilgrimage.
The OMC, under the leadership of the Awujale of Ijebuland, Oba Sikiru Kayode Adetona, described the Hajj as a sacred global convergence that demands strict adherence to rules and spiritual mindfulness.
In a statement signed by the Council’s Secretary-General, Asiwaju Kamaldeen Akintunde, the Council urged pilgrims to comply fully with directives from Hajj officials and cooperate with welfare teams to ensure a seamless experience.
“Pilgrims must understand that achieving Hajj Mabrur (a spiritually accepted pilgrimage) is not just about rituals but also about upholding good conduct, orderliness, and mutual respect,” the statement read in part.
The Council also commended the Ogun State Governor, Dapo Abiodun, for the appointment of Prince Shamusideen Adebayo Apelogun as the state’s Amirul-Hajj, describing the choice as “deserved, meritorious and commendable.”
The OMC encouraged the new Amirul-Hajj to maintain the high standards the state has become known for in its Hajj operations, urging him to work closely with the Hajj Welfare Committee for a successful mission.
Pilgrims were also reminded of the state’s development mantra, “Igbega Ipinle Ogun, A jo se gbogbo wa ni” (The progress of Ogun State is our collective responsibility), as they embark on the spiritual journey.
The Council expressed optimism that the 2025 Hajj exercise would be peaceful and impactful for all participants.
