The Ogun II Area Command of the Nigerian Customs Service (NCS) has announced a remarkable revenue collection of over Fifteen billion Naira (N15,191,227,503.82) in the first quarter of 2025.
PLATFORM TIMES reports that this development marks a 40 percent increase compared to the corresponding period in 2024.
The Customs Area Controller, Comptroller Bisi Alade, disclosed this at a press briefing held on Friday, at the Command Headquarters in Abeokuta, Ogun State.
Comptroller Alade attributed the impressive performance to the strategic initiatives and unrelenting commitment of the officers and men under his command.
He noted that the revenue collected for the first four months of 2025 represented significant growth from the N9.17 billion recorded between January and April 2024.
While breaking down the revenue generated, Alade said the bulk of the revenue came from Excise duties, which he said generated over N8.33 billion, followed closely by contributions from the Free Trade Zone amounting to N7.16 billion.
Additionally, the Bonded Terminal (Import) sector contributed nearly N1.5 billion to the overall earnings.
Monthly revenue figures showed consistent performance with January and April recording the highest collections of approximately N4 billion and N4.26 billion respectively, while February and March also maintained robust contributions of N3.49 billion and N3.44 billion respectively.
The Command’s success is credited to several strategic measures introduced under Comptroller Alade’s leadership, including enhanced monitoring operations, improved intelligence gathering, stronger engagement with stakeholders, and robust corporate social responsibility initiatives.
According to him, these efforts align with the Nigerian Customs Service’s broader policy framework championed by Comptroller General Bashir AmAdeniyi, which emphasizes consolidation, collaboration, and innovation.
Further illustrating the command’s vigilance, Comptroller Alade revealed the recent discovery and subsequent regulation of an unauthorized factory operating illegally within the command’s jurisdiction, bringing it under excise control.
Alade added that the command remains steadfast in its resolve to exceed this milestone in the coming months, leveraging increased compliance from the trading community and stronger partnerships within the Free Trade Zones and bonded terminals.
Comptroller Alade emphasized continued stakeholder education and collaborative enforcement of fiscal policies to sustain growth.
In his closing remarks, he extended heartfelt appreciation to the officers and men of Ogun II Area Command for their professionalism and hard work.
He also acknowledged the unwavering support of the Comptroller General and management team, as well as the productive collaboration with sister agencies.
