In a strategic move to fortify its ranks ahead of the upcoming local government elections in Ogun State, the Labour Party has called on all stakeholders to unite and present a formidable front.

The statement read that the  decision was made during a crucial leadership meeting held in Abeokuta over the weekend, which was convened by the South West leadership of the party.

This was contained in a statement signed by the State Publicity Secretary, Tokunbo Peters.

The party, which aims to capitalise on the growing discontent with the All Progressives Congress (APC), emphasized the need for internal cohesion.

According to the Labour Party, the APC government, both at the national and state levels, has failed to deliver on its promises, leaving Ogun residents disillusioned and eager for change.

The Labour Party is positioning itself as the viable alternative capable of providing effective governance at the grassroots level.

During the meeting, it was highlighted that aspirants for the forthcoming local government elections under the Labour Party’s banner must meet specific criteria to be eligible for the party’s primaries.

These criteria include the submission of a letter of Expression of Interest, completion of the nomination form within the specified timeframe, and payment of the prescribed nomination fee.

Additionally, candidates must be at least 30 years old, possess a minimum of a Senior Secondary School Certificate (SSCE), hold a valid Voter’s card, and either reside in or be indigenous to the local government area where they intend to contest.

The meeting also resolved that prospective aspirants for both chairmanship and councillorship positions will undergo screening at the ward and local government levels to ensure they meet the party’s standards.

The Labour Party stressed the importance of unity and collective effort in securing victories for all its candidates in the forthcoming elections.

Peters, who signed off on the resolutions, called for all hands to be on deck to ensure the Labour Party emerges victorious in the local government polls, a crucial step in their broader political strategy in Ogun State
