The Deputy Minority Whip of the Ogun State House of Assembly, Hon. Dickson Kolawole Awolaja, has commenced the execution of multiple constituency projects aimed at improving living standards across the Remo North State Constituency.
The projects, currently underway in six key communities—Isara, Ode-Remo, Ipara, Ilara, Orile-Oko, and Akaka—include the construction of market stalls, provision of potable water, and a modern abattoir.
Speaking during the foundation-laying ceremony for two blocks of 20 market stalls in Ode-Remo, Awolaja said the projects were driven by the needs and requests of his constituents.
“These projects are being put in place based on the demands of the people. We conducted consultations, listened to their needs, and this is what they asked for,” the lawmaker said.
The lawmaker added that the goal is to create a more conducive business environment for traders, particularly market women who have faced longstanding challenges.
“In the past, traders at the Ode-Remo market resorted to renting canopies that offered little protection from rain. With these new stalls, they’ll have a proper place to display and protect their goods,” he noted.
Also included in the wave of interventions is the drilling of eight motorised boreholes across the constituency. The boreholes are being installed in Ipara (2), Ilara (2), Akaka (1), Pakiama in Ode-Remo (1), Orile-Oko (1), and Jowoje in Isara (1). The contractor has been given a two-to-three-week deadline for completion.
In a move to improve sanitation and meat processing in the area, Awolaja revealed that the construction of a modern, well-equipped abattoir will also commence next week in Isara, once the ongoing site clearance is completed.
The initiative has received warm commendations from traditional rulers and community stakeholders. The Alaye of Ode-Remo, Oba Amidu Osho, described the market project as a major relief for the town’s traders.
“Market women selling perishable goods like yam flour used to suffer serious losses anytime it rained. Today, Hon. Awolaja has brought a lasting solution. This is a laudable initiative,” the monarch said.
Similarly, at one of the borehole sites in Ipara, the Onipara of Ipara, Oba Taiwo Taiwo, lauded the intervention, noting that residents had long struggled to access clean water.
“The closest source of potable water is several miles away. This borehole will greatly ease that burden. We are thankful to Hon. Awolaja for this timely intervention,” he said.
Awolaja reiterated his commitment to grassroots development, promising that additional projects across the constituency will commence simultaneously in the coming days.
“These are not campaign promises—we’re fulfilling them with action,” he said.
