…He Is Heartless, Govt Reacts
The Chairman of the Ado Odo Ota Local Government Area of Ogun State, Sheriff Musa is under fire over his decision to build a shopping complex inside the compound of a primary school
PLATFORM TIMES gathered that the complex is under construction inside the Nawair-Ud-Deen Primary School 1, Atan Ota.
The completion of the project implies that buying and selling would take place while the pupils are receiving lectures in their classrooms.
This is also coming at a time when stakeholders have complained of encroachment on most of the government-owned schools.
A source who visited the site of the project observed that a banner was displayed on the fence of the school, showing what the structure will look like and beckoning people to make payment.
“I was in the local government area on Friday afternoon when I was informed about the situation and I decided to visit the school where I saw that work had already begun on the project inside the school.
“What I was told by people around the school premises was that the shopping complex will have 20 shops with 10 of them downstairs and another 10 upstairs.
“This was also attested to by the flyer displayed at the fence of the school by the developers which show how the complex will look like. The flyer also asked people to come and pay for the shops,” the source said.
Residents have since expressed shock over the sudden development.
One of them said, “Some bricklayers just came one day and started digging the land inside the school. As concerned people, we approached them and they said they were doing it on the instructions of the local government chairman.”
In a swift reaction, the Ogun State Commissioner for Education, Science and Technology, Prof. Abayomi Arigbabu described the chairman as ‘heartless’.
He assured that the government is taking steps to properly investigate the development.
“Thanks so much for your concern. I’ve taken steps on it since last week. Be assured that we will tackle it. We have serious issues of encroachment of school land all over the state, but we’ve been on it. People are heartless!” He reacted.
