The serene town of Orile Ifo in Ogun State was rocked by controversy as a viral video surfaced, depicting Oba Semiu Ogunjobi, identified as the Oloorile of Orile Ifo, subjecting an elderly man, Chief Abraham Arinola, to dehumanizing treatment.
In the disturbing two-minute clip, the monarch was heard boasting of his authority, boldly claiming ownership of the police and impunity to act without consequence.
The footage, obtained by PLATFORM TIMES, shows Chief Arinola kneeling on the road, his face obscured, as Oba Ogunjobi rains curses upon him, accusing him of conspiracy.
The monarch, a retired police officer himself, arrogantly asserts his influence over law enforcement, threatening legal repercussions against the aged man.
At one point in the video, a companion of the Oba was seen physically assaulting Chief Arinola, slapping him to the apparent satisfaction of Ogunjobi.
Following the assault, the victim is humiliated further as he .was ordered to prostrate before the monarch, who continues to berate him in Yoruba, condemning him and those who support him.
“You are a conspirator, it will never be well with you… your wife and children… whoever thinks he is courageous enough should come out to face me… even if you die, we shall bury you and nothing will happen,” Oba Ogunjobi was heard saying in the video, emphasizing his perceived invincibility.
The incident reportedly stems from a dispute over kingship supremacy, exacerbated by Chief Arinola’s alleged allegiance to a rival coronet Oba named Wasiu.
This rivalry prompted Ogunjobi to confront and publicly humiliate the elderly man, actions widely condemned as unfitting for a traditional ruler.
Reacting to the video, Governor Dapo Abiodun’s Special Assistant on New Media, Emmanuel Ojo, expressed dismay in a Facebook post, denouncing the incident as a flagrant abuse of power and advocating for more civilized resolutions to traditional disputes.
“This incident is highly condemnable and completely unjustifiable,” Ojo wrote.
“Regardless of the underlying issues, resorting to force, assault, and public humiliation is unacceptable and must be strongly denounced.”
PLATFORM TIMES has learned of efforts to downplay the incident and sweep it under the carpet, raising concerns about accountability and justice in the community..
The public outcry continues to grow, with demands for a thorough investigation into the actions of Oba Ogunjobi and his companions.
