Oba Adokun of Igan Okoto, in Yewa North, Dr. Mukaila Salako, had threatened to banish herdsmen from his kingdom for damaging crops of farmers in some communities.
Oba Salako, on Thursday, having gotten complains from his people, summoned the community herdsmen leader, popularly called Seriki, to discuss and prevent farmers/herders clash.
According to the monarch, he gets distress calls everyday from farmers in the community, lamenting how some herdsmen, with cows, destroyed their farmland.
He therefore gave the Seriki warning, threatening to send them away if he gets any complain again.
He said, “this is our land, you can’t come here to destroy our farms, we have been warning but nothing’s was done, my people thought I sold my land to you .
“Throughout last week, I receive lots of complains from farmers, this week is also full of complaints, tell your people, or else, you will all leave my kingdom.”
Responding, the Seriki said he would do everything within his capacity to caution the herders.
He pleaded with the king as he promised to warn the herders under him.
He therefore stressed that any herdsmen caught destroying a farmer’s farm should be held responsible, and pay everything the farmers asks him, because that’s the source of his livelihood.
