The Ogun Muslim Community Society on Thursday organized a spiritually uplifting Ramadan lecture and prayer session in honour of Senator Solomon Adeola Olamilekan Yayi, who represents Ogun West under the All Progressives Congress (APC).

The event, held at the Green Gold Event Hall in Akute, Ogun State, brought together Muslim faithful to observe the Holy Month of Ramadan with prayers, reflections, and acts of charity.

Delivering the keynote sermon, the Grand Chief Imam of Akute, Alhaji Mohammed Baruwa, emphasized the significance of piety and communal love, urging Muslims to embrace kindness and generosity.

Imam Baruwa stressed the need for Nigerians to extend support to their immediate families and neighbors, particularly in light of the prevailing economic hardship.

He noted that the government alone cannot cater to the daily needs of citizens, thus underscoring the importance of mutual assistance.

“The country is facing difficulties, and the government cannot place food at the doorstep of every Nigerian. It is our duty to be our brother’s keeper and support one another in these trying times,” he said.

The Islamic cleric also urged philanthropists and wealthy Nigerians to adopt the practice of Zakat (charitable giving), as exemplified by Prophet Muhammad (SAW), during and beyond the Ramadan period.

He advised Muslims to sustain their acts of righteousness even after Ramadan and refrain from returning to sinful ways.

Represented by Hon. Kayode Amusan, Senator Yayi, who serves as the Chairman of the Senate Committee on Appropriations, reaffirmed his commitment to community development through his empowerment programs.

He encouraged Muslim faithful to continue praying for the success of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope agenda, stressing that criticisms alone would not bring the dividends of democracy.

“Casting aspersions on Nigerians will not solve our problems. We must work together and support the government’s efforts to ensure development,” Yayi said.

The event featured the recitation of the Holy Quran, special prayers for Nigeria and its leaders, and the distribution of Ramadan relief packages to the less privileged.

Prayers were also offered for President Bola Tinubu, Ogun State Governor Dapo Abiodun, and Senator Yayi himself, recognizing their roles in governance and national development.
