The Ogun State chapter of the Nigerian Institute of Public Relations has congratulated a former Governor of Ogun State and Senator representing Ogun East Senatorial District, Gbenga Daniel, on his 70th birthday, describing him as a visionary leader whose legacy continues to shape governance in the state and beyond.

In a statement jointly signed by its Chairman, Mrs Oluwaseun Boye, and Secretary, Mr Kunle Olayeni, the institute said the milestone marked “seven decades of a life devoted to public service, leadership and unwavering dedication” to Ogun State and Nigeria.
The body lauded Daniel, popularly known as OGD, for his contributions as an engineer, entrepreneur and politician, noting that his tenure as governor between 2003 and 2011 significantly transformed the state’s socio-economic landscape.
It stated that his administration’s policies in key sectors such as education, healthcare, agriculture, infrastructure, commerce and transportation positioned Ogun as a preferred industrial destination.
The statement added that Daniel’s leadership style, anchored on innovation and people-oriented governance, left enduring impacts that continue to inspire a new generation of leaders.
“Otunba Daniel’s footprints on the sands of time remain indelible. His visionary leadership, statesmanship and commitment to good governance have not only inspired individuals but also shaped the actions of leaders and citizens,” the statement read.
The institute further noted that his current role in the Senate reflects the same dedication to service, citing his efforts in legislative duties, representation and oversight as evidence of his continued relevance in national development.
“As he clocks 70, we celebrate his remarkable life and contributions to the growth of Ogun State and Nigeria, and wish him good health, joy and fulfilment in the years ahead,” the statement added.
