The Ogun State Chapter of the Nigeria Labour Congress has elected a new chairman to paddle the canoe of it’s affairs.
The 2023 delegates election held at the state NLC secretariat, in Abeokuta on Tuesday and produced Comrade Hammed Benco Ademola.
Ademola from Nigeria Union of Agriculture and Allied Employees (NUAAE), emerged as the new Chairman of the NLC, Ogun state chapter, unopposed after his rival who was the incumbent chairman, Emmanuel Bankole withdrew from the race.
In his acceptance speech, the new chairman, Hammed-Benco commended the resilience of Ogun state workers for believing in his mandate and assured that his administration would synergise with the government of the state to ensure an hitch-administration.
He enjoined the NLC members to join hands with him by providing lofty ideas that will further move the union forward.
He thanked the National President of NULGE, Alh. Akeem Ambali for providing the needed support to meet the demands of the members.
He said, “Let me use this opportunity to appreciate numerous individuals, groups and states across the country for their support, encouragement and guidance.
“To my esteemed delegates whose confirmation is being affirmed by our distinguished chairman of the Union, I am grateful for this golden opportunity.
“Our being elected today is not because we are the best but because we have been destined at this period and because our members have decided to keep their faith in us.
“Let me say that there is no winner or loser, but our members are the winner if we deliver on our mandate. I congratulate all of us.”
Benco assured the state government of adequate synergy that will improve the relationship between the state workforce and the government.
He added that he would interface with the government regularly for meaningful progression of workers welfare.
“Well, I’ve said it, it is perfect synergy, regular interface, regular meetings with the government and education that can improve the relationship between the labour union and the state government.
“Education, because we need to educate some hierarchy of government to see why civil servants must be taking serious as a gem, as the propeller of the government. So, they must give us that credence, they must respect us and give what is due to workers, once that is done, I want to assure you, no government will have any cause to regret relating with labour workers in the state.”
In the other elections, Comrade Bidemi Alafia Tayo polled 474 votes to defeat his opponents Median Nanle and Emmanuel Bello who polled 353 and 166 votes respectively to emerge the Vice Chairman.
Comrade Osijo Patrick emerged Auditor having polled 445 votes to defeat his opponents.
