The Ogun State chapter of the organised labour has ordered an indefinite withdrawal of services by all civil and public service workers across the state, following unresolved grievances with the state government.
The directive, issued on Monday, July 14, 2025, emerged from a resolution reached at the General Parliament of Ogun State Civil and Public Service Workers held at the Arcade Ground, Oke-Mosan, Abeokuta.
In a circular jointly signed by the Nigeria Labour Congress, State Chairman, Comrade Hameed-Benco Ademola, and State Secretary, Comrade Christian Omoneh, all affiliates and workers in the state civil/public service were instructed to immediately down tools until further notice.
“Arising from the resolution reached at the General Parliament of Ogun State Civil/Public Service Workers… all members are directed to withdraw their services till further notice,” the statement read in part.
The congress warned that any worker who disobeys the directive does so at their own risk, stressing that the union would not bear responsibility for such actions.
While the specific demands of the workers were not detailed in the statement, the NLC urged the Ogun State Government to “as soon as possible call for dialogue” to address the concerns of the “teeming workers.”
“We shall continue to keep you updated on further developments. A workers united can never be defeated. Solidarity forever,” the statement concluded.
As of press time, the state government is yet to issue an official response to the strike action. The development is expected to significantly disrupt operations across government offices and public institutions in the state if not promptly addressed.
The NLC has, in recent months, expressed dissatisfaction over unresolved issues ranging from wage arrears, poor working conditions, and unfulfilled agreements between labour and government in several states, including Ogun.
Stakeholders and observers are urging both parties to return to the negotiation table in the interest of industrial harmony and service delivery.
