The Nigerian Medical Association (NMA) has praised Ogun State Governor, Dapo Abiodun, for honouring his commitment to the welfare of medical professionals in the state by implementing the revised Consolidated Medical Salary Structure (CONMESS) and the new minimum wage.

PLATFORM TIMES reports that this development marks a significant step in improving the welfare of doctors in the State.

Addressing journalists during a press briefing at the NMA House in Abeokuta, the state Chairman, Dr. Ogunjimi Lukman, expressed appreciation on behalf of the association, noting that the governor’s action shows the government’s responsiveness to healthcare professionals’ concerns.

Ogunjimi said “today, we convey our heartfelt gratitude to His Excellency, Governor Dapo Abiodun, for keeping his promise.

“ This commitment from the government is a clear demonstration of its dedication to the welfare of doctors in Ogun State,” Dr. Lukman stated.

He recalled that members of the association had resolved to embark on a strike beginning August 5, 2024, following an Emergency General Meeting on July 23.

He added that the strike, however, was temporarily suspended on August 29 to allow for negotiations with the state government.

The NMA however, highlighted that some concerns remain unaddressed, particularly regarding doctors associated with Olabisi Onabanjo University and medical professionals under the Hospital Management Board (HMB) and the Ministry of Health (MOH).

Dr. Ogunjimi assured that discussions on these issues would continue with the government in the coming days to ensure fair treatment and support across all medical departments.

The NMA reiterated its commitment to constructive engagement with the government for the betterment of the health sector and expressed optimism about a continued collaborative relationship with the state authorities.
