The Ogun State chapter of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) has filed a petition against the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), accusing the commission of deliberately disenfranchising a large number of voters in some local government areas during the March 18, 2023, governorship election.
In a letter addressed to the National Chairman of INEC and copied to the Resident Electoral Commissioner, the State Secretary of the PDP, Dr. Sunday Solarin FCA, called on the commission to take immediate action to address the issue and ensure that the voting rights of eligible voters are protected.
“We are aware that the principle of margin of lead as established by the Commission in Section 24(3) is in effect, affected by the inability of the population greater than the reflected lead between the assumed winner of the election and the runner-up.
“Therefore, a re-run is appropriate to address this injustice. We, therefore, implore the Commission to evoke this principle and declare this election inconclusive,” the letter stated.
The PDP accused the APC of planning and orchestrating thuggery to prevent voters from freely exercising their rights and urged INEC to investigate the issue and take necessary measures to ensure that such an incident does not occur again in future elections.
The PDP has called for immediate action to be taken to address the injustice done to the affected voters and ensure that their voting rights are protected.

“The integrity of the electoral process must be maintained to ensure that every eligible voter has a fair and equal opportunity to exercise their voting rights.” Dr. Solarin said.
