Ogun PDP Raises Alarm Over Two Result Sheets, Late Distribution Of Election Materials

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Ogun State has raised concerns over alleged irregularities in the local government elections, including the distribution of two result sheets to polling units and the late movement of election materials.

The party questioned the credibility of the electoral process, citing delays in the delivery of materials, which could potentially disenfranchise many voters.

Our correspondent observed that as of 7:32 am, election officials were still collecting materials from the Ogun State Independent Electoral Commission (OGSIEC) office in Abeokuta, the state capital, just minutes before the scheduled start of voting at 8 am.

Speaking with journalists, the PDP state agent, Waliu Oladipupo, expressed disappointment over the situation, emphasizing that the distribution of two result sheets was unusual and raised doubts about the integrity of the polls.

“Imagine somebody that is going to Ogun Waterside. Do you think they will get to their destination on time, having slated the election for 8 am? I doubt the credibility of the election,” Oladipupo said.

He called for an extension of the voting period to accommodate affected voters and ensure that the election process is fair and transparent.

“We want the time to be extended so that voters can vote. Secondly, they should ensure that the results are declared at the polling units,” he stated.

Oladipupo further urged OGSIEC to prioritize transparency in the collation of results, stressing the need for accurate declarations at every stage of the electoral process, from ward collation centers to the local government level.

The PDP’s concerns come as the state gears up for what is expected to be a closely watched election, with stakeholders calling for free, fair, and credible polls.

Efforts to reach OGSIEC officials for comments on the allegations were unsuccessful at the time of filing this report.
